To refine or confirm a clinical diagnosis, it can be useful to undergo a sleep study, which is performed in an ambulatory mode (no hospitalization).
According to the sleep disorder, various types of exploration can be prescribed : snoring and respiratory night recording, a polysomnography, a 24 hour EEG holter, multiple sleep latency tests or maintenance of wakefulness test .
The patient can sometimes be managed by different specialists to cover up his problem while respecting the free choice of the practionner by the patient.
